Organizer: Arbeitskreis Provenienzforschung e.V.
Date: 8 April 2020
Registration: open until 15 March 2020
Coordination: Arbeitsgruppe Tag der Provenienzforschung: Susanne Knuth, Sven Pabstmann, Brigitte Reuter.
Who: The Arbeitskreis Provenienzforschung e.V. is the biggest international association of provenance researchers. It was founded in 2000, thus 2020 marks its 20th anniversary. The Arbeitskreis' central tasks include the professional support of provenance research in all its fields of activity as well as the promotion of interdisciplinary exchange. So far, the association counts more than 320 members from Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, and the United States.
When: The DAY OF PROVENANCE RESEARCH has been held once a year since 2019, on the second Wednesday in April. This year, the date is 8 April 2020.
Why: The DAY OF PROVENANCE RESEARCH is an important part of the community outreach efforts of the Arbeitskreis Provenienzforschung e.V. It offers the opportunity to draw both local as well as international attention to the social and academic relevance of provenance research and its diverse questions, challenges, and research methods.
Participation and registration: All institutions that conduct provenance research in the broadest sense (such as NS-looted art, cultural assets from colonial contexts, objects that were expropriated in the Soviet occupation zone or the GDR) are invited to participate in the 2nd DAY OF PROVENANCE RESEARCH 2020. Possible activities may include special guided tours, public lectures or discussions, presentations of showcases and cabinet exhibitions, restitution events, book presentations, consultation hours, and much more. Members of the association decide for themselves how and to what extent they and their institution will participate.
