Kurzbeschreibung
This lecture introduces Master’s degree students at Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London, to the “5 W’s” of Nazi-era provenance research — the ‘Who’, ‘What’, ‘When’, ‘Where’ and ‘Why’ — and, perhaps more importantly ‘How’. Students will learn how to conduct “Erstcheck” (“first check”) provenance research, from deciphering inventory numbers and stamps on the back of frames to cross-referencing looted art databases.
